The MedRez.net Scheduling Tool's "Schedule Viewer" has been completely redesigned.
** Account admins: make the new Viewer the default by editing your account's Schedule Publishing settings **
Read below for details about the new Schedule Viewer:
Usable on smartphones, tablets and computers
The new design remains completely functional on any screen size from smartphone to desktop and it is also touch-friendly, so phones and tablets are fully covered.
This allows you to view all the same schedule data whether you are on a laptop or a phone or a tablet.
Simplified interface and navigation
A major goal of this redesign was to make it very easy for any user to find the schedule they need without help.
The new design streamlines the navigation so you can find what you need in one click from the main page of your account.
Controls and interactive elements have been repositioned and redesigned to be more intuitive and predictable.
Export operations are now clearly laid out and explained in plain English.
New "On Now" view
One of the first things you will see in the new Schedule Viewer is the "On Now" panel, which lists the on-going shifts, calls and clinics, and the residents assigned to them. It also lists recently ended and soon to begin shifts so you can know who just left or who is coming next.
"On Now" replaces the "two-week overview".
New page for each resident and staff to view their schedules
Each resident and staff can now click through to a page that displays just their schedule (including rotations) and gives them multiple options for downloading and syncing their schedules.
Calendar feed for resident and staff schedules
The MedRez.net Schedule Viewer now provides each resident with a unique address that they can enter into their personal calendar software (Outlook, icalendar, Google Calendar...) to keep it in sync with their schedule.
More flexible export functions
Call and Shift schedules can now be exported to .ICS files to upload to Google Calendar or any calendaring software that supports the format (Outlook, ICalendar, iOS calendar, etc...)
Call and Shift Schedules can be exported to PDF and ICS over arbitrary date ranges, so you can export the full year or just the week of the holidays.
Pager numbers
The pager number for each resident can now be seen by clicking on a resident or staff in any schedule.
Staff Edit Interface improved in the Scheduling Tool
Schedule Makers: there is a new interface for creating and editing residents and staff. The new interface is cleaner and adds the ability to specify a pager number to display along with published schedules.
Adopting the new Viewer:
- Adopting the new Schedule Viewer for your account is an "opt-in" process.
- Currently the "old viewer" is still the default view when residents and staff view their schedules.
- Residents and staff can test-drive the new Viewer by clicking on the link at the top of the old Viewer.
- Each account administrator can make it so the new Viewer is the default (and the only choice) when they feel comfortable that their organization is ready to handle the change by editing their account's Publishing Settings.
- At some point not before January 2013 all accounts will be switched to the new Viewer.
About devices and browsers:
- iPhone 4 and better on iOS 5 and higher work well.
- 10-inch iPads (all generations) on iOS 5 or higher work well.
- iPad Mini: not yet tested. works well.
- Android tablets and phones on Android version 4.0 or above and using the Google Chrome web browser all work well.
- Old Android devices (using Android version prior to 4.0) can sort of work sometimes.
- Windows Phone: untested. works.
- The new Viewer makes no attempt to cater to "dumbpones" or phones that are not equipped with a modern web-browser.
- Desktop browsers: Google Chrome, FireFox, and Apple Safari are all good.
- Internet Explorer version 10: not yet tested. works.
- Internet Explorer version 9: works.
- Internet Explorer versions: 7 and 8: these outdated browsers provide a slow and clumsy experience.
- Internet Explorer version 6 or below is not supported in the new Viewer.
