  • Schedule conflicts between blocks

Dear MedRez,

I am scheduling interns and residents in the ED and have multiple ED blocks. When the same resident has back-to-back ED blocks, it does not prevent me from scheduling conflicting shifts. For instance, the last shift of the prior block I could have someone work 11 to 8 and then have them work at 7 that same day on the first day of the new block (does not take into account prior shifts between blocks even for the same resident). Is there any way to fix this? I don't want to inadvertently double schedule someone. Thanks!

Ryan

Also, as an aside, the "Help" button at the bottom of the page when you're on any of the main screens (e.g., home screen, scheduling screen, etc.) is broken.

      Dear Ryan,

Thank-you for writing and I am sorry about the problem.

Yes, resident participation in other schedules and other blocks is not showing up reliably in some schedules (particularly 2014-2015 schedules) right now, and as a result block-to-block conflicts aren't being flagged. This bug was reported to me on Friday and a fix is in progress. I'll write again here when it's all back to normal.

Sorry about the broken help link. I'll fix that too while I'm at it.

        Hello again Ryan,

I just updated the Scheduling Tool to fix the problem with block-to-block schedule conflicts.

Please let me know if you have further issues.

Thanks so much for the quick replies! One more quick question, if you don't mind.

Is there a way to display the times of each shift on the calendar automatically and for printing purposes? We have lots of off-service rotating interns in the ED and we would like to have the times shown instead of just the shift name so they know what time their shift is. For instance, we call a shift "Day A" but that's the 7 A.M. to 5 P.M. shift. All the EM people know what that means, but off-service interns might not.

The off-service residents could download their personal schedule as PDF. On that printout all times are shown explicitly.

To do that they just need to click on their name, and click through to their own page on MedRez.net, and select "Download PDF of your schedule".

Note that times are also shown by default on their personal schedule, so they should feel free to bookmark that page on their phones.

            I hope that helps.
